Hole 1 - Par 4

The opening hole at the Semlin Valley golf course is a short but tricky par 4, presenting a near 900 dogleg from right to left and a blind tee shot. From the tee box you will see in the far hills an orange and white radio tower. Using this as your target, try to shape your shot from right to left. A drive of about 220 yards should leave you with a short shot onto this slightly uphill green.
As with all holes at Semlin Valley out of bounds is on the left. The green is guarded by two sand traps on the left and one at the back right. There is also a pond behind the green so be aware of being long with your approach! The green has a ridge about 1/3 of the way into it sloping downhill left to right.
Hole 2 - Par 5

Hole 2 is a sweeping uphill par 5, uphill the entire distance with out of bounds left all the way to the green. The safe drive is to aim at the right side fairway bunker and shape your shot right to left. The longer hitters can cut off the corner by aiming at the saddle in the far hills. But be careful! There is a significant risk-to-reward in attempting this shot. If you pull it off, you may be able to reach the green in two. The second shot is uphill and often into a wind. A large, deep sand trap in the shade of a large willow tree guards the right side of the green at about 60 yards from the front. The green itself is fairly flat and receptive and offers a good birdie opportunity to those who can reach it in regulation.
Hole 3 - Par 4

This scenic hole is the shortest par 4 on the course. The big hitters may be tempted to go for it - but beware! There is out of bounds all the way left and behind the green, and an evil conglomerate of hazards front left (water, sand, deep rough and a gulley at the foot of a steep embankment). Four sand traps surround the green, as well as a deviously positioned fairway bunker to the right. With the green sloping away from front to back, well - good luck!
The safer play is to place a shot about 170 yards to the right, leaving a short iron or wedge in.
Hole 4 - Par 3

The first of the two par 3's at Semlin Valley appears easy enough, and so it is. The front left corner of this green is guarded by a large willow tree, and there are two bunkers - back left and mid right. The green slopes from left to right, and the swale fronting the green will kick the ball that lands short to the right. The ideal shot is to bring your ball in from right to left, but remember - there is always out of bounds over the left fence!
